I was so excited to hear that Benefit Cosmetics has expanded their range of Hoola Bronzers to cater for a wider range of skin tones. I already love the original for a a subtle shading on my medium/ tan Asian skin tone but had my eye on the Hoola Caramel which has the perfect depth and undertone for me. Then I saw the Cheekleader Palette Bronze Squad hosting 5 full sized face products and I thought ‘Yes please Ill take one of those!’ It has 3 products from their original line (Coralista, Gold Rush and Hoola Bronze Original) has the new Hoola Caramel and a brand new exclusive highlighter (Cookie). That being said let’s get into the swatches comparisons of some of the similar products and review!
Swatches and Formula, pigmentation and longevity:
The Hoola Original: Has a smooth velvety texture and is a medium brown that is a little cooler than some of the more deeper bronzers in the new range but still has warm undertones. Its geared more towards medium skin tones it adds depth and shade for everyday looks even on my skin tone. This is bronzer is rich in pigmentation and needs to be applied with a soft restraint hand. It does kick up a little powder so tap your brush to remove the excess.
Hoola Caramel: Is for medium to deep skin tones and is a warm rich brown with caramel undertones. It is super soft and smooth and gives my medium/ tan skin a healthy warmth without making it look flat or dry. It makes my skin look smoother and glowy. It is very pigmented and does kick off a little powder so really just dip your brush in a little to give you more control when applying it.
I feel like these two blushes look quite similar on my skin tone and they’re too light to be blushes that add colour to my skin! I like a ‘just ran up a few stairs” flush myself!
Coralista– Is a warm peachy coral blush with a soft satin finish that looks almost glowy on the skin. It is buildable but doesn’t have the depth required for deeper skin tones. The formula is soft and buttery but I feel like those with more light- medium skin tones will love this more than those with a more rich skin tone. It also has a light floral summery scent which is a nice addition.
Gold rush– Is a light rosey-peach with warm undertones. Although it has a gold overspray ( I really wish it didn’t) It has a very subtle gold sheen throughout. It is smooth to the touch and buildable but again a little on the light side for deeper skin tones. This blush is also lightly scented like a perfume with notes of vanilla, citrus and sandalwood which I would enjoy bottled!
The New Cookie Highlighter!
Packaging, Layout and Brush:
The packaging is sturdy, full of character, charming and definitely has vintage cheerleader vibes. On the downside ( like a lot of Benefit packaging) it is a bit bulky. But the product itself is so lovely I can look past the chunky case and feel confident that it will survive a vigorous journey. It has a small mirror which is great for travelling and the traditional benefit brush that comes with a lot of their boxed blushes and bronzers.
Price Point and Overall thoughts:
The fact that you are getting five full size products for rrp £52 with a total value of products worth £130 is a bargain especially if like me, you don’t own a lot of the boxed blushers and bronzers. I think that the standout products for me are the Cookie highlighter and the Hoola Caramel as they work beautifully on my skin. I would have loved to have seen a deeper blush colour in this palette to give it more variety, however the formula of these powders work so well together and melt into the skin that the blushers on deeper skin tones act more like toppers giving my face a subtle glow with a hint of colour!
